Energy Projects Manager
John has over 30 years' experience in the electricity industry on transmission, power projects, and related infrastructure, plus involvement on the supply of energy to industrial users.
This experience includes a significant level of interaction with a range of organisations and other parties including:
- Local authorities at both regional and local territorial authority level
- Energy companies including electricity generators, Transpower and network companies
- Landowners and their representatives where investigations and easements are required
- Legal advisors on land access and other project legal matters
John has significant experience in project management of investigations and resource consents for a number of electricity generation and transmission options for a range of technologies, including wind, hydro, thermal, and geothermal. He has advised a number of clients on transmission related issues and was appointed to the Board of Inquiry for Transpower's North Island Grid Upgrade Project.
John also has experience in management of electricity generation and transmission projects at a number of locations, primarily in various locations throughout New Zealand. The specific projects cover a range of electricity generation technologies and transmission voltages.
John has worked on establishing energy auditing and has advised industrial energy users on specific energy use aspects, particularly monitoring and improving the quality of electricity supply.
Relevant project experience
John has also built up a range of relevant experience in:
- Managing preparation of an energy audit manual
- Engaging and managing consultants to undertake specialist tasks in the environmental, technical, legal, financial, property purchase, administrative, and regulatory fields
- Commercial development of wind farms, including securing easement options and resource consents
- Management and administraion of contracts for the operation, maintenance and fuel supplies for a power station
- Involvement in the sale process of an operational power station
- Managing investigations for Lower Clutha Hydro Project including securing land for a range of Clutha, and other hydro electric projects
- Determining transmission route options, and managing investigations of these options. Securing associated transmission route easement options
- Involvement with transmission issues associated with the design of the Taranaki Combined Cycle Power Station
- Overall programming for the design and construction of Ohaaki Geothermal Power Station
- Planning, scheduling, and constructing the transmission system for the New Plymouth Power Station to Bunnythorpe 220 kV link, including a new substation near Wanganui.
